Vermont is the quintessential destination for a charming escape to the countryside. It’s one of those places that people always note as the perfect place to get away from it all and truly disconnect. That’s why we’ve named it one of our favorite destinations to take an extended vacation. While a weekend trip would give you a nice taste of what Vermont has to offer, to truly appreciate it we’d recommend planning to stay 4-5 days. With a variety of activities from beer tasting, gourmet eating, and adventures in nature, it’s easy to fill your itinerary and make the most of your free time.
Dive Into Nature
It’s easy to get lost in the beauty of Lake Champlain, and in Burlington, you have the option to explore the lake by land or by water. Rent a bike at Local Motion, which offers everything from trail bikes to tandem bikes, and take a self-guided tour along the Burlington Bike Path. Get a real feel for the water by opting in for a paddleboarding class, an exciting way to explore the waterfront. Or feel the refreshing breeze on a sunset sail across the lake, and unwind with the surrounding views.
Get Your Foodie Fix
Beyond being picturesque, Vermont is home to a variety of eateries that showcase local flavors. Being surrounded by countryside has its perks in that you know everything is fresh and probably came within a stone’s throw. One spot you can’t miss when dining out is Hen of the Wood, a critically acclaimed farm-to-table restaurant with a robust menu. They even feature a whole page for Vermont cheeses! Once you’ve filled your belly, head to Zero Gravity Brewery for an authentic craft beer experience, beer garden included. This spot is known to offer the right mix of classic and innovative beers on tap.
