Vail is a wintertime wonderland for ski enthusiasts worldwide, and in the summertime, it transforms into a top destination for outdoor lovers. Boasting a rugged and beautiful terrain, visitors can take advantage of hiking, horseback riding, and fly fishing during the warmer months. To help you plan your next trip, we’ve rounded up some of our favorite summertime activities in the area.
Live Like a Local
Summer kicks off in June with Crazy Mountain Brewing Company’s Hot Summer Night Concert Series, which features free live concerts every Tuesday night. Listen to The Devon Allman Project and Queen Nation while sipping on some local brew underneath the warm dusk sky. For a good local eatery, try a slice of pie at Local Joe’s PIzza, a staple for locals and highly known among tourists. Warning: their Fiesta in Your Mouth Pizza has a chipotle pesto sauce that will leave you wanting more.
Start your weekend right with a reservation at the Mountain Standard, a rustic tavern that uses ancient forms of cooking to produce bold-flavored plates with a hand-crafted feel. It’s the perfect place if you want delicious high-end food in a down to earth atmosphere. For a great breakfast, try Lindsey Vonn’s favorite, The Little Diner, where you can get an order of pannekoeken, a German hybrid of a pancake and a popover.
For an adrenaline-infused morning, take a ride on a sunrise hot air balloon ride. Soak in views of the Rockies and maybe even catch a glimpse of local elk herds. For something more hands-on, check out Epic Discovery, named the number one activity in Vail. With ziplining, a mountain coaster, adventure courses, climbing walls, and 4×4 tours, it’s the ultimate spot for adventure-seekers.
In this day and age, high-quality meats are hard to come by. At the Colorado Meat Company, they’ve made it their mission to source local, hormone-, steroid-, and antibiotic-free meats from local ranches which they butcher on site. Need some spices to rub on those meats you just bought? Check out the plethora of spices, rubs, and marinades at Red Canyon Spice, Vail’s artisanal spice company.
Step Into Old World Charm
Nestled in the heart of Vail Village, you’ll find Tivoli Lodge, a rustic retreat offering easy access to downtown Vail and Lionshead. Apart from the mountain and village views and large soaking tub in each room, the lodge also provides entry to the Vail Vitality Center. Here you can enjoy a long soak in their steam room or sauna and take part in a complimentary yoga class to help you recover after a long day of activities.
