The holiday season is here, and that means it’s time to whip out those dusty boxes of lights, ornaments, and tinsel to decorate the Christmas tree. Whether you’re inaugurating your first Christmas tree or if it’s the next of many, each year’s tree seems to take on a different decorative interpretation from the last. Luckily, there is plenty of holiday inspiration to pull from at the annual 2017 Fashions for Evergreens competition.
A Christmas Tree Paradise
This annual Christmas tree decorating competition takes place at The Hotel Roanoke & Conference Center in Southwest Virginia, where thousands of people flock to get a glimpse of some of the 30 spectacular trees that go on display each year. From elegant gold and silver firs to kitschy-themed Santa Claus pines, each tree has a professional designer mastermind behind its creation.
“We’ve had everything! From a 70s disco-themed tree to a Santa hot rod sleigh. Each year we think we’ve seen it all and then several new and inventive trees show up!” said Brian Wells, General Manager of the Hotel Roanoke & Conference Center.
“We’re seeing more and more people each year as well. Last year tallied more than 10,000 visitors who walked through the properties just to see the trees. Each year these trees get better and more creative, it’s truly a sight to be seen.”
A Season of Giving
The event itself was set up to raise donations for The United Way of Roanoke Valley by having the public make monetary donations to vote for their favorite tree. All the funds go directly to the foundation and the tree that raises the most money gets presented with The People’s Choice Award. This is the 6th year the event has taken place, and so far it has raised more than $30,000 to date.
“We are proud to support and partner with the United Way,” said Wells. “With the largest field of competitors, this year’s Fashions for Evergreens is poised to be our best year to date. It’s the season for giving, and this event allows the entire community and guests of the Hotel to support a great cause in a fun and delightful way.”
