Lemurs, Zebras, and Giraffes, Oh My! Get a Safari Experience in San Antonio, Texas

Who says you have to go to Africa to experience a safari? If you’re visiting Texas, you’ll have the chance to get an up close and personal wildlife adventure right outside of San Antonio at Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch. With over 500 different exotic, native, and endangered animals roaming over 450 acres of open terrain, you’ll feel like you’ve just stepped onto the savannah without having to touch your passport.

The Safari

The best part about this safari is that you don’t have to leave the comfort of your own car. When you gain admission into the ranch, you’ll be able to freely explore the grounds, finding animals along the way. They also provide you with a bag of feed, so you’ll have all the goods to make the animals come to you. While 1.5 hours is recommended to see everything, you’re welcome to do as many loops around as you like. Typical animal sightings include zebras, camels, and ostriches. One of our favorite animals at the park is the Southern White Rhino, the largest rhino species that can reach up to 2 tons in weight!

The Animals

When you’re ready to stretch your legs you can join the Walk-A-About, where you’ll get to see giraffes in the giraffe barn, spot bushy-tailed lemurs on Lemur Island and witness colorful peacocks along the way. This is an opportunity to get a more in-depth education on the animals, especially the giraffes, as the ranch has a variety of conservation efforts dedicated to this species. A documentary, The Last of the Longnecks, was even filmed on the property and follows the life of two twin giraffes that were birthed at the ranch.
